Copper-plated lead is harder than tempered lead and is suitable for use when a more concentrated shot pattern is required, thereby delivering better performance at long ranges. This is because, at the moment of firing, copper-plated lead – being harder – is less susceptible to deformation and remains more spherical. Consequently, it maintains a straighter trajectory through the air.
